CVS HEALTH Corp's 10-K, read.
Bob rates CVS HEALTH Corp (CVS) 66/100, lean bullish, on the 10-K filed February 10, 2026, updated through the 10-Q filed November 4, 2026.
CVS's latest 10-Q shows a sharp recovery from the 2025 goodwill impairment and premium deficiency charges. Nine-month 2026 operating income rose to $12.9B from $2.5B, cash from operations roughly doubled to $15.3B, and net debt fell. The core risk is that its Health Care Benefits and Medicare Advantage margins depend on accurate cost forecasting and on government rates that the filing says may be tight for 2027.
- The 2027 Medicare Advantage advance rate notice implies only a 0.09% average revenue increase before risk score trend (2.54% including it), which could compress margins in the segment that took large premium deficiency charges in 2025.
- Health care costs rose only about 0.7% in the nine-month figures ($93.2B vs. $92.5B) while premium revenue grew about 2.7%, so cost trend is not the source of pressure in these results. The filing still warns that even relatively small differences between predicted and actual costs can significantly change Health Care Benefits results, and that forecasts are harder to get right in volatile periods.
- Health care costs payable rose to $16.9B from $15.4B at year-end, and the filing warns that reserve estimates are highly judgmental and can prove insufficient.
- Star ratings drive Medicare Advantage bonus payments, and the filing says more than 81% of members are in 4-star-plus plans, leaving exposure if ratings slip.
- PBM business faces ongoing reimbursement and price compression, state laws restricting PBM-affiliated pharmacies, and the pressure of direct-to-consumer drug sales on pharmacy volumes.
