Intel's core products are recovering: nine-month revenue rose about 18% to $46.2B and Q3 operating income reached $2.5B, versus $0.7B a year earlier. But the business still depends on outside capital to fund its manufacturing buildout. It raised $23B in equity, spent $14.2B to buy back Apollo's stake in its Ireland fab partnership, and carries a Foundry segment that lost $6.4B in the first nine months with little external revenue.

  • Foundry losses are large and external demand is thin: the segment posted a $6.4B operating loss over nine months, and third-party foundry revenue was only $878M in that period.
  • Intel 14A may be paused or discontinued if it cannot secure a significant external customer, which would shift future leading-edge manufacturing to third parties such as TSMC.
  • Reported earnings are distorted by non-operating swings: a $12.6B mark-to-market loss on Escrowed Shares tied to the U.S. government agreement, plus $4.3B of restructuring and other charges (including a $3.9B goodwill impairment), drove a nine-month net loss of $11.6B.
  • Heavy dilution and government involvement: shares outstanding rose from about 4.99B at year-end 2025 to about 5.32B by October 2026, with unreleased Escrowed Shares, warrants for 241M shares tied to the foundry business, and a U.S. government equity stake.
  • Capital intensity and funding reliance: capex was $10.2B over nine months, partner distributions reached $14.4B, and total debt plus short-term debt grew to roughly $50B, so the company depends on partner capital and continued access to markets.
